Service and Care: PLU Leading the Way
Campus Forum Recognizing PLU’s Voices Against Violence Program Featuring Keynote Speaker, Tony West, Assistant Attorney General, U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Division
The PLU Voices Against Violence Program welcomes honored guest Tony West to campus on Thursday, March 11, 2010 for the special program, “Service and Care: PLU Leading the Way,” from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm in the Scandinavian Cultural Center. Mr. West serves as the Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division in the Department of Justice. He will visit PLU as part of a national tour of 10 universities to showcase exceptional campus-based programs to address violence against women.
Nationwide, colleges and universities struggle to address incidents of intimate partner and sexual violence and many seek to increase and improve prevention efforts. The Department of Justice selected PLU for the site visit in order to support our Voices Against Violence Program as a model project, worthy of distinguishing for our efforts to promote healthy and safe relationships and address gender violence.
The campus forum, “Service and Care: PLU Leading the Way,” will feature Mr. West as keynote speaker and also include a panel discussion to highlight the unique and noteworthy aspects of PLU’s Voices Against Violence Program. Additionally, Mr. West and other panelists will interact with campus and community members through a question/answer period, providing an excellent opportunity to build students’ knowledge and civic engagement.
Please attend this event and also encourage your students and colleagues to participate. Help us celebrate this recognition by the U.S. Department of Justice as leaders in the field and demonstrate our commitment to addressing and preventing intimate partner violence, sexual assault and stalking on campus.
