Mount Tahoma High School
Scholarship Program
At Mount Tahoma High School  

The following scholarships are available to graduating students at Mount Tahoma High School.  

The Elva Austin Memorial Scholarship: Established in 1992, through Elva Austin’s last will and testament. This scholarship award rotates each year between high schools throughout Pierce County.  

Eligibility Requirements:
             • Current graduating senior at a Pierce County High School.
             • Must enroll at a two-year or four-year college or university accredited in the United States.
             • Must have demonstrated financial need.  

The Dan Barkley Future Teachers Scholarship Fund: Established in 2001 to honor Dan Barkley’s retirement from the school district, for the benefit of students of Mount Tahoma High School.  

Eligibility Requirements: 
             • Current graduating senior at Mount Tahoma High School.
             • Must enroll at a four-year college or university to pursue a degree in education.  
             • Must have demonstrated financial need.  

The Manitou Improvement Club Scholarship Fund: Established in 1998 to benefit students of Mt. Tahoma High School.   

Eligibility Requirements:
             • Current graduating senior at Mt. Tahoma High School.
             • Must enroll at a vocational, two-year, or four-year college or university.
             • Must have demonstrated financial need.   
             • Must reside in an area bounded by South 56th Street on the North, South 84th Street on South, 
               Orchard Street on the West and Adams Street on the East.  

The Dr. Thomas J. Miskovsky Scholarship Fund: Established in 2004, by Dr. Miskovsky’s wife, Marilynn Simpson, as a special present to celebrate his 70th birthday. Dr. Miskovsky was born June 25, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois. He moved to Tacoma, Washington where he was an orthopedic surgeon from 1969 through 1995.  

Eligibility Requirements:
             • Current graduating senior at Mount Tahoma High School. 
             • Must enroll at a two-year or four-year college or university.
             • Must demonstrate financial need.
