Foundation Annual Celebration Luncheon
Tuesday, November 13, 11:30 a.m. at The Greater Tacoma Convention Center
This annual event is structured to stimulate ideas and celebrate the Foundation’s key role in our community. We created buzz with our capacity-filled 2005 event, which featured aspiring young musicians, community-minded break-dancers. Our 25th Anniversary Celebration in November, 2006, was exceptional, even by our standards, as we honored movers and shakers who, for the past 25 years, have helped shape our community for good. Keynote speaker for 2007 is John Graham, president of the Giraffe Heroes Project, an internationally known outreach program based on Whidbey Island that encourages people to stick their necks out for the common good. Graham is from Tacoma and a Bellarmine graduate with a rich past including time spent as an explorer, Foreign Service officer, and Assistant to Andrew Young at the United Nations. Since 1983, he has been teaching that courage and caring are the keys to solving tough problems and finding meaning in an ever-changing world. The event is expected to attract 500 community leaders, individual and corporate donors, and non-profit organizations to downtown Tacoma’s Convention Center.
Fund for Women & Girls Luncheon The Foundation’s Fund for Women & Girls is unique in Pierce County, with an inclusive fundraising model that advocates giving at any level to empower women by making them part of the solution. Established in 1999, the Fund has grown to over $1 million and granted $150,000 to more than 40 organizations that provide opportunities for women and girls in Pierce County to achieve their full potential. Event sponsors help ensure that this spring event is free, so that anyone, regardless of economic circumstances, may attend. Over 450 attended in 2007. Sponsorship also ensures that 100% of donations from individuals who attend will go towards funding projects that support women and girls in Pierce County.
The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation and Fund for Women & Girls Grant Receptions Two Foundation receptions and one GTCF Fund for Women & Girls grant reception are held annually at various locations in Pierce County. They provide an opportunity for grant recipients to tell their stories to community leaders and donors, thank the Foundation and its supporters, and network with other engaged leaders. Combined attendance in 2007-8 is expected to be approximately 400-500 community leaders, individual and corporate donors, and non-profit organizations.
